The Baltimore Marriott Waterfront has become more green in the last year through 4 initiatives: (1)
Management and Leadership
We use the following best management practices:
bulletEnvironment Policy Statement
bulletEnvironmental Team: Put together The Green Team comprised of managers and associates from 14 key departments within the hotel. They meet weekly to create new ways to do reduce our footprint. They have helped us to streamline our volunteer manpower to benefit the community. In 2009, they helped plant over 200 trees last spring. They also developed another huge idea for our property and implemented it in 2009. A team of people take turns touring the hotel each day to turn off lights and adjust HV/AC temperatures in rooms that are not being used – a process they coined as Energy Walks. This effort alone has helped us to save 72,000 KWH of energy in 2009!
bulletSet Annual Goals: Recycling over 35% more product per month as compared to last year.
bulletWe have a purchasing policy to encourage the purchase of environmentally-friendly products and services
bulletList of our environmentally friendly products and services: Atlantis Laundry Water System reduces 38,000 gallons of chemicals and 2.6 million gallons of water used to launder towels and sheets each year.
bulletEnvironmental Restoration or Community Environmental Projects: We have reached out and engaged our customers along with our associates to assist us with our tree planning event (took place in 2009 and will happen again in 2010). We also offer as a promotion to group customers, the opportunity to have us make a cash contribution in their name for up to 5% of the revenue that they spend on guestrooms, to the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation to help protect and preserve the Juma Reserve in the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil! We are going to extend this promotion into 2010 at our hotel.
