Welcome Centers

One of the few states to staff Welcome Centers with Nationally Certified Travel Counselors by the Travel Industry Association of America, Maryland offers Welcome Centers that are open year-round. All Welcome Centers are handicapped accessible. Welcome Centers are closed on all state and federal holidays.

Located on eastbound I-68, 1.5 miles east of Friendsville in Garrett County, Maryland, this site offers an outstanding view of the Youghiogheny Reservoir

  • Hours:  9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Open Memorial Day Weekend - Friday through Monday
  • Open May 31 through October 13, 2013 – Thursday through Sunday
  • Open October 18, 2013 to mid-May – Friday through Sunday
  • Serves traffic heading eastbound to the Eastern Shore as well as Washington and points south. 
  • Amenities include rest rooms, picnic tables, vending and scenic overlook of the Youghiogheny River.
  • Rest Area open seven days per week; January through March, open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April through December, open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Open Thursday through Sunday from May through October

  • Serves traffic heading toward Baltimore and Eastern Shore as well as Washington and Points South.
  •  Rest Area open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week year round
  • Amenities include family restrooms, playground, truck, bus, RV and car parking. Picnic tables, walking path and pet area as well as vending.  No dumping station available.

  • Thursday through Sunday from November through April.
  • Serves traffic heading north on US15 via the turnaround past Emmitsburg exit and south from Gettysburg, one mile south of the Pennsylvania line. 
  • Rest area open seven days per week, 9:00 am to 5:00 p.m. north of Emmitsburg, Md. and one mile south of the Pennsylvania line.
  • Amenities include vending machines, family restrooms, picnic tables and playground area.  Pet area, water fountains and truck, car and RV parking available.

  • Amenities include travel information on the State Of Maryland and Washington D.C.; vending machines; water fountains; restrooms; newspaper stands; and recycle bins. The Center also features truck, RV, and bus parking lots; a dumping station; and picnic tables and benches.
